Delete your OffWatch account

You can delete your OffWatch account and its associated data from this page. You do not need to reinstall the app, and you do not need to contact us first.

What gets deleted

Deleting your account permanently removes your OffWatch profile, your discovery visibility and your social connections. This cannot be reversed. Specifically, we remove:

• your sign-in credentials, so the account can no longer be used;
• your profile — display name, handle, bio, maritime role, nationality, languages and your profile photo;
• your date of birth and other private account details;
• your location presence, so you stop appearing to anyone in discovery or on the map;
• your connections and invitations;
• your device push-notification tokens, so we can no longer notify your device;
• your identity-verification record. We then instruct our verification provider to redact what it holds for that check — see Identity verification below.

What may remain, and why

We are telling you this rather than implying deletion covers more than it does.

• Messages you sent to other people. They may remain visible to the other person in that conversation, but will show as sent by “Deleted user” once your account is gone. We do not delete the other side of someone else’s conversation.
• Safety and moderation records. If you were involved in a report, that record may be retained in an anonymised form, linked to a pseudonym rather than to you, so that safety decisions remain reviewable.
• Records we are required to keep. As our Privacy Policy sets out, we may retain certain records for longer where required to comply with a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, or enforce our agreements.

Our Privacy Policy also states that we retain account and profile data for as long as your account remains active, and generally delete it within 30 days of account deletion, and that messages and reports may be retained for a limited period after that for trust and safety purposes. Nothing on this page changes that policy; see section 8, Data retention.

Identity verification

OffWatch never receives or stores your identity documents. Verification is carried out by a third-party provider, and we only ever hold the outcome of the check. When you delete your account we record an instruction to redact that check at the provider, and it is carried out separately from your deletion — so your account is deleted immediately whether or not the provider is reachable at that moment. Our Privacy Policy describes the provider’s own retention of submitted documents, which is outside our control.

Subscriptions

Deleting your OffWatch account does not cancel a store subscription. Subscriptions are billed by the App Store or Google Play, not by us, so they must be cancelled through the store you bought them from. Cancel the subscription first if you no longer want to be billed.

If you cannot sign in

If you have forgotten your password, reset it from the sign-in screen in the OffWatch app and then come back to this page. If you cannot access your email address or cannot sign in for any other reason, email support@off-watch.com from any address and tell us you want your account deleted. A real person reads that inbox. We may need to ask you something that confirms the account is yours before we delete it.

You can also delete your account in the OffWatch app itself, under Account. Both routes do exactly the same thing.
