Closed Beta

Installing OffWatch on Android

OffWatch hasn’t launched publicly yet. On Android the beta is delivered through Google Play, which makes it shorter than the iPhone route — there is no separate app to install first.

On an iPhone? The iPhone instructions are here — that route works differently.

Wait for us to tell you you’re in

We email you when a place is ready. That email is the thing that matters — not the install. Installing the app before we have admitted you will get you a screen telling you your place isn’t ready yet, because whether you may use OffWatch is decided by us, not by the store you downloaded it from.

Check your junk folder if it hasn’t arrived.

Installing it

  1. Open the link in the email we send you, on the Android phone you want to use.
  2. It opens OffWatch in the Google Play Store.
  3. Tap Install.

That is the whole process. There is no code to enter and nothing to join first.

Which Google account?

Any of them. It does not need to be the address you gave us, and it does not need to be an address we know about. Your OffWatch account is the email you sign in to the app with; the Google account is only how your phone gets the app.

If you were asked for a Google account during an earlier round of the Android beta, that requirement has gone.

Once OffWatch is installed

Open the app and create your account. From there you’ll be guided through:

  1. Confirming your email address — we send a link, you tap the button on the page it opens.
  2. Verifying your identity — a short photo ID check. It’s handled by our verification provider; we never see or store your documents.
  3. Filling in your profile — your date of birth, gender, nationality, at least one activity and a Conversation Starter. These are required rather than optional: OffWatch matches crew on what they actually do, and an empty profile has nothing to go on.
  4. You’re in. That’s the beta.

OffWatch only shows you other verified people, which is why the ID check is part of joining rather than an optional extra.

What you get during the beta

Everything. The whole app is open to you — nearby discovery, full profiles, messaging, Events, arrival alerts, the lot. Nothing is held back and there is nothing to buy.

Updates

New beta builds arrive as ordinary Play Store updates. You do not need to reinstall, and you will not lose anything.

Something isn’t working

Tell us and we’ll sort it out — including if you never received the email telling you your place was ready.
